E-mail Print PDF

Some 30% of Armenians are ready to leave their country for good, compared to 17% of Azerbaijanis and just 7% of Georgians.

The figures are the result of a poll, the Caucasus Barometer, conducted by the Caucasus Research Resource Centres (CRRC) in autumn 2010 in 6,000 households in the three countries of the South Caucasus.

The poll showed that 64% of Armenians were ready to leave the country temporarily and 30% permanently.

In Azerbaijan, 17% were ready to leave permanently and 52% temporarily, while the figures in Georgia were 7% and 47% respectively.

Presenting the results on Wednesday, Heghine Manasyan, director of the Armenian Caucasus Research Resource Centre, said the goal of the simultaneous polls was to collect comparable data on social, political and economic processes in the South Caucasus countries.

Out of a list of problems, Armenians mentioned most of all unemployment (45%) and poverty (10%).
