Azerbaijan's Patience On Karabakh 'Exhausted'

Azerbaijan's envoy to Uzbekistan, Namig Abbasov, has accused the West of "double standards" over its failure to solve the Karabakh conflict.

He made the statement at a ceremonial reception in Tashkent to mark Azerbaijan's Republic Day, Turkey's Cihan news agency reported.

"Azerbaijan, which is the first democratic state in the East, suffered occupation in the 21st century. Why is the West silent and does not take any action? We have been facing this injustice for 20 years already," he said.

"The patience of the Azerbaijani people is exhausted, our lands must be returned without conditions and there can be no other opinion on this issue," the ambassador said.

Abbasov also accused the West of using the issue of the "Armenian genocide" for its own purposes.

He thanked Uzbekistan for its support for Azerbaijan's position on Karabakh.
