Construction Work on the Mass Graveyard, The Only Witness of Azeri Genocide, to Begin

The construction work in Guba mass graveyard, which is the only witness of genocide committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in 1918, will start next week, the graveyard will be closed for public, head of the Guba genocide expedition of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Gahraman Agayev told. According to him, the implementation of construction work, chemical treatment of bones and protective works in the graveyard will be conducted there. Azerbaijan’s Aykon Company will carry out construction work in the graveyard.

Aghayev said that the employees of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography would restart diggings in the graveyard: “One need to find bones remained aside, under layer of earth, as well as to smooth layer of earth under the bones. The bones in Forensic-Medical Expertise and Pathological anatomy must be brought”. After that the roof of the graveyard will be constructed”.

Though the construction work in Guba graveyard were considered to start early in April, the process delayed for unknown reasons.

Guba graveyard was found on June 1, 2007. The Genocide Memorial Complex is constructed there according to the order issued by the Azerbaijani President in December, 2009. The graveyard is situated 200 meters away from the complex.
