FM Elmar Mammadyarov Meets US Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton

Azerbaijani Foreign Affairs Minister Elmar Mammadyarov specialized the country’s main foreign policy priorities in the US Capital, on June 3.

In his speech at the Atlantic Council this morning, Mr. Mammadyarov mentioned that Azerbaijan is the leading state in the region with its significant role in the energy sector and participation in regional projects, as well as its balanced foreign policy.

Speaking about the US-Azerbaijani relations, Mr. Mammadyarov highly praised the developing and strengthening friendly ties between the two.

Touching upon the negotiation process to settle the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Mr. Mammadyarov stressed that Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions adopted in 1993 on the liberation of Azerbaijani territory.

In the afternoon, Mr. Mammadyarov met the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and the Assistant Secretary Philip Gordon. Two ministers discussed bilateral cooperation, energy security and the global, regional events, as well as Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

As OSCE Minsk Group co-chair the US will continue full assistance to achieve an agreement between the sides, Secretary Clinton assured during the meeting.

Thanking for the invitation, FM Mammadyarov expressed his gratitude to the US for the efforts to solve NK problem.
