Work on the basic principles is constantly being conducted. The proposals and corrections are made at each meeting, Russian OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair Igor Popov told media in Khankendi, Armenia Today reported.

"There is a project," he said. "A number of issues should be considered. The ministers will deal with this. If the final version is agreed, it will be finished in Kazan."

French co-chairman Bernard Fassier said that the last version of the Madrid principles is a variant discussed in the Sochi three months ago.

"The correction is underway now," he said. "There are small items that should be completed. That's why we hope that the final version will be immediately approved, because you know that the first variant was in late 2007."

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
