Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Slovenian President Danilo Turk held a joint press conference on 9 June.
At first, the presidents made press statements for journalists, the Azerbaijani President’s website reports.
Slovenian President Danilo Turk welcomed President Ilham Aliyev and expressed his confidence that the visit will be a success.
Recalling his official visit to Azerbaijan in 2009, Danilo Turk said that his visit and President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Slovenia are good opportunity to review bilateral relations.
"Over the last period trade turnover between our countries has increased by 10 times. It is planned to sign new agreements for further expansion of economic relations," said Danilo Turk, saying that Slovenia focuses attention on preservation of peace and security in the European area, in connection with which his country was interested in the peaceful settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Slovenian president addressed the significance of the recent joint statement by the heads of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries, calling it an important document.
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude to President of Slovenia for hospitality, emphasizing efficient contacts between heads of state.
"Slovenia is an important partner of Azerbaijan in the region," said President Ilham Aliyev noting that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to energy security of Europe and seeks to further expand its export diversification opportunities.
Noting that at present Azerbaijan’s gas reserves total 2.2 trillion cubic meters, Aliyev said that negotiations were under way on Southern Corridor, and interests of all parties in this respect are taken into consideration.
Speaking about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that the talks would produce results and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan would be ensured.
'There are good conditions for a fair resolution of conflict,' the President said, stressing the importance of changing the status quo.
