No Progress Expected in Turkey-Armenia Normalization After Elections, Armenian Expert

E-mail Print PDF

No progress should be expected in the Armenia-Turkey normalization after the parliamentary elections in Turkey, the Vice-Dean of the Department of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University has said.

Speaking to Tert.am, Ruben Melkonyan said that electoral processes do not end in Turkey even after the elections, and following these parliamentary elections Turkey will step into a phase of constitutional elections.

“That is to say electoral processes in Turkey do not end with parliamentary elections, therefore in such conditions it is impossible to expect normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations,” said Melkonyan.

Further, Melkonyan said that Turkey’s “rhetoric will not change even after the elections,” adding that Turkey will continue its pro-Azerbaijani statements for domestic audience.

For foreign audience, according to him, Ankara will say that efforts for the Armenia-Turkey reconciliation continue.
