Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter of congratulations to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan today, the Azerbaijani President's official website said.

"Dear Mr. Prime Minister, dear brother, I heartily congratulate you on the convincing victory of the Justice and Development Party held in the elections to the Turkish Grand National Assembly on June 12," the message said. "There is no doubt that this victory is the result of the work carried out by you over the years in state power, and appreciation given by people for your activity."

The relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey are based on deep historical roots. They are the relations of strategic partnership, the message says.

"These multi-faceted relations strengthen and develop each year in the political, economic, energy, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres," the message said. "The constant mutual support of our countries in the international arena is essential and causes great satisfaction.

I believe that the relations of friendship, brotherhood and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkey will continue expanding and intensifying for the benefit of our peoples. I take this opportunity to invite you to visit Azerbaijan at a convenient time to jointly consider and further develop our future opportunities of cooperation."

President Aliyev wished Prime Minister Erdogan sound health and new achievements, as well as permanent prosperity and progress to the Turkish friendly and brotherly people.
