Turkey Investigates Equipment Sale For Khankandi Airport

E-mail Print PDF

Civil Aviation office of the government of separatist ‘Nagorno Karabakh Republic’ bought equipment for a Turkish company for a new Khankandi airport.

'A Turkey-made device to produce a metallic net to fence the Khankandi airport has been brought via a broker in Armenia', said chief of the ‘NKR’ civil aviation office Tigran Gabrielyan, News-Armenia reports.

He said this device is not an aviastation equipment and is intended solely for fencing the airport. “Compared to the devices of European and Chinese producers, the device of this Turkish company is relatively cheap”, Gabrielyan said.

The head of the office board did not specify terms of the airport opening. 'Construction is gradually nearing completion, and most part of equipment has already been supplied to Karabakh', Gabrielyan said.

Sources in the Turkish embassy to Baku informed Gun.Az that the embassy is investigating this issue.

According to press advisor Yavuz Marash said that the results of the investigation will be made public.

1news.az reports citing the Turkish embassy in Baku that if it turns out that "Demirci makina" really supplied equipment for construction of an airport in Khankendi, the government will take austerities against them in line with the Turkish laws.

Meanwhile, manager of Demirci makina Akif Tamim said the reports in Armenian mass media about purchase of equipment for the airport are untrue and an impudent lie.

“We have never had any links with Armenia. We have never received any orders from the companies or firms of this country. We have recently sold the same equipment to Iranian companies and have no idea to whom they resold it”, he said.
