The United States supports the Turkish-Armenian rapprochement process, the US Assistant Secretary of Defense has said.
Speaking in Washington DC on Thursday, Alexander Vershbow said his country will work with Turkish partners relying on their priorities in the region including, peace in the South Caucasus.
"We also strongly support Turkish-Armenian rapprochement and all of other efforts that will bring the peace to the region", the Azerbaijani news agency APA quoted him as saying.
It came after a top aide to Turkey’s prime minister, Ibrahim Kalin said his country’s policy of engaging in the conflicts in the South Caucasus and other neighboring regions remains as one of the first top priorities.
He said Ankara is hopeful the recent diplomatic mobility in the South Caucasus will eventually lead to concrete progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan and will enable Turkey to pass a so-called threshold to move ahead in ongoing efforts for the normalization of ties with estranged neighbor Armenia, APA reported.
