Armenian Foreign Minister comments on Kazan meeting.

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said that the meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents held in Kazan June 24 'did not become a breakthrough' because Azerbaijan failed to endorse the latest version of the Basic Principles submitted by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.

Minister recalled that in Deauville statement Russian, US and French Presidents urged the sides to finalize and endorse the Basic Principles and the same did US President Barack Obama during his phone talks with the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders on June 23.

'However, Azerbaijani side proposed about 10 amendments, and this was the reason that the meeting in Kazan did not become a breakthrough. In any case, the meeting was useful as we continued detailed discussions', Edward Nalbandian said. He noted that Russian President expressed readiness to continue his mediatory efforts.

Armenian FM said that during last year Azerbaijan for 4 times tried to amend the versions of the Basic Principles proposed by mediators. 'But we remain committed to peace talks as there is no other way for reaching the settlement', Edward Nalbandian stated.
