Google Translates ‘Qarabag’ As ‘Armenia’

Google Translate has a bizarre mistake in its translation of the Azerbaijani place name Qarabag into English.

The online dictionary gives the English for "Qarabag" as "Armenia".

The place name Qarabag is commonly written in English as Karabakh, while an actual translation of the name is "Black Garden".

It is unlikely that this is a technical error, given the conflict between Armenia and Azerbajian over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Google's administrators have a special blog in which they ask users to report errors and have a “Contribute a better translation” button.
