“Sargsyan Could Be Lynched On Return From Kazan”

E-mail Print PDF

'We have watched efforts of great powers to solve the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh in recent years, but apparently, Armenia is not ready for this yet'.

The remarks came from MP, political expert Rasim Musabayov while commenting on the recent Kazan meeting of Azerbaijani, Armenian and Russian presidents.

The only result of the meeting is that the sides once again reviewed complex issues of the conflict settlement, the MP said.

The reason for the fruitless meeting lies in internal political situation in Armenia, the MP added

'The fact is that the Armenian people are in such a stage of psychological distress that they see any concession as a betrayal. I do not exclude that if Serzh Sargsyan signed any document in Kazan, he could simply be lynched as in medieval times upon return to Armenia. I see the second reason in contradictory messages by Russia before these negotiations.

If President Medvedev and Foreign Ministry really tried to promote the resolution of this longstanding conflict, we would have heard other statements from the military elite and representatives of the General Staff of Russia. Therefore, Armenia took all this into account and did not make a decisive step toward a compromise.

But the lack of progress in Kazan will not cause any loss for Azerbaijan. Armenia and forces that back it will suffer. It is noteworthy that prior to the Kazan meeting the Azerbaijani President conducted successful negotiations in Brussels and US-Azerbaijani security consultations were held in Baku. '

Asked about possibility of war, Musabayov said that it is a very serious matter and things will develop depending on different circumstances.
