Bako Sahakyan, leader of Karabakh separatists, has said that the day will come when Karabakh will take part in negotiations over the conflict.

Speaking about the recent trilateral meeting in Kazan, Russia, Sahakyan said in an interview with the Armenian service of the RFE/RL, that as usual they expected that the parties would come to an agreement so that Karabakh would also be part of negotiations.

“On several occasions we stated that we welcome the international community’s efforts aimed at resolving the Karabakhi conflict in a peaceful way. And the Kazan meeting was not an exception,” said Sahakyan.

Further, Sahakyan hailed a recent statement by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs that the settlement of the conflict without Karabakh’s participation would be impossible.

“And we were expecting that more exact agreements would be reached at the recent meeting in ensuring Karabakh’s participation in the negotiations process” Sahakyan added.

Bako Sahakyan also said that though “Azerbaijan’s stance did not contribute to approximating those talks to a full format” Karabakh still hopes that it will one day become a negotiating party.

“But anyway, we still hope and think that the day will come when we will participate in negotiations,” said Bako Sahakyan.
