Armenian FM: Azerbaijan Intends To Fail Negotiations

Armenian Foreign Minister comments on Elmar Mammadyarov’s statement.

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov’s statement claiming to develop a peace treaty without the reconciliation in Basic Principles is evident that Azerbaijan is intended to fail the negotiations, Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian stated in the international institute of strategic studies, London.

Making his remarks over the Azerbaijani FM’s statement, Edward Nalbandian said: “Azerbaijani statesmen have been declaring the same statement for two years, and the co-chairs expressed their viewpoints, saying if Azerbaijan cannot agree over the Basic Principles, how a peace treaty can be reconciled.”

To conclude, Armenian FM stated Azerbaijan is obviously intended to fail the negotiations.

On July 13 the RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian visited London. Here E.Nalbandian had a meeting with the British Foreign Secretary William Hague and UK Minister of State for Europe, David Lidington.

Before the meeting Minister Edward Nalbandian and UK Minister of State for Europe, David Lidington signed an agreement on “The avoidance of double taxation on income and property, and the prevention of fiscal evasion between the Armenian Republic, the Great Britain and Northern Ireland.”

The agenda of the talks involved a broad range of issues concerning bilateral relations, regional and international issues. E. Nalbandian has discussed with the British Ministers the steps to be undertaken in political dialogue, promotion of bilateral relations, cooperation with international institutions, business relations, and cultural exchange programs.

Armenian Foreign Minister stated that the Armenian – British relations have a serious potential of development. He attached importance to the activation of the mutual cooperation. They reached an agreement on holding Armenian – British business forum.

The Ministers touched upon the Armenia – European Union cooperation. British Foreign Secretary William Hague welcomed the Armenia – EU deepening cooperation.

The heads of the Foreign Ministries of the UK and Armenia have touched upon regional issues and developments in Near and Middle East as well as in Africa.

The interlocutors have discussed in details of the regional conflict settlements.

In that context the RA Minister Nalbandian presented the Armenian position on Karabakh conflict settlement and expressed hope that it will be possible to bring the problem to an end if Azerbaijan displays corresponding political will and constructive policy.

In this context Minister David Lidington offered his support to the negotiation process being realized by the mediation of the Minsk Group co-chairs and stressed the necessity of solving the issue through peaceful means.
