It's time to change the status quo: liberation of occupied Azerbaijani territories and return of refugees to their homes.
The Armenian leadership is not interested in peaceful settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and seeks to maintain the status quo in this matter.
The statement came from Elnur Aslanov, head of the political analysis and information department at the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, in his interview with Russian Nezavisimaya Qazeta newspaper.
"This statement is another evidence of Armenia's aspiration to maintain the status quo. This is in discord not only with statements of the Minsk Group co-chairs, EU leaders about changing the status quo, but in general, is contrary to the logic of the negotiation process," he said, commenting on Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s statement he made to Armenian military officers trying to blame the Azerbaijani side for absence of a positive outcome in negotiations,” Aslanov noted. It is nonsense to call Azerbaijan an invader while 20% of its territory has been occupied by Armenian armed forces, which is reflected not only in the four UN Security Council resolutions, but also in documents adopted by other international organizations, the official added.
"Definitely, the Armenian leadership is not interested in peaceful resolution of conflict and with such verbal bravado proves once again its lack of a constructive approach to resolving the conflict. It's time to change the status quo: liberation of occupied Azerbaijani territories and return of refugees to their homes. Armenia should understand that the delay in the negotiation process does not only deal it political, but also serious economic damage," Aslanov noted.
