'Blockade Is Big Problem For Armenia'

E-mail Print PDF

Georgia violates WTO principles in its relations with Armenia, Armenian economist says.

Even though Georgia and Armenia are both WTO members, Georgia charges from Armenia twice as much for transit as it does from Azerbaijan, a country having no WTO membership, Tatul Manaseryan, economist, the head of the Alternative Analytical Center, said Wednesday during a Yerevan-Moscow video bridge concerning Armenia's transport blockade.

He said that the blockade is a big problem for Armenia, and Georgia avails itself of it.

In Manaseryan's opinion, Georgia violates WTO's key requirement that there must be no discrimination in trade-economic relations among its member states. Besides, Georgia and Turkey have ratified a number of international customs conventions stipulating that no transit fee should be charged from countries having no access to the sea.
