Turkey Has No Alternative, Armenian Expert Says

E-mail Print PDF

If Turkey decides to re-open the border and establish relations with Armenia in 2015, it will not face as grave danger as it might face now.

At his meeting with journalists July 25, Richard Giragosian, Director of the Regional Studies Center (RSC), voiced the opinion that Turkey has extended the term for itself. That is, it will wait until 2015, said Giragosian, Tert.am reported.

In the context of Armenian-Turkish reconciliation, he said that the year 2015 is the end of term, and it is toward this end that Turkey is moving.

The Armenian-Turkish protocols are dead, Giragosian said. If Turkey decides to re-open the border and establish relations with Armenia in 2015, it will not face as grave danger as it might face now. The expert does not yet see any political will for establishing relations with Armenia in Turkey.

Giragosian has doubts that Turkey is ready to normalize its relations with Armenia now. On the other hand, he is optimistic because Turkey has no alternative. Turkey's policy toward Armenia has proved a complete failure, the expert said.
