Azeri, Russian Defense Ministers Discuss Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict

Minister Abiyev welcomed Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's efforts in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

Azerbaijani and Russian Ministers of Defense, Safar Abiyev and Anatoly Serdyukov held a private meeting in Baku, July 25.

The APA news agency reports that the sides discussed prospects of bilateral military and technical cooperation, present politico-military situation in the region. The sides exchanged views on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Minister Abiyev welcomed Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's efforts in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. The numerous presidential meetings inspire hope for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. Minister Abiyev also said that Azerbaijan is building up its army.

The Russian defense minister arrived in Azerbaijan on July 24. He is scheduled to hold a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. The sides are to discuss the extension of lease of the Gabalin radar.

Minister Serdyukov is to leave Baku on July 26.
