E-mail Print PDF

Serzh Sargsyan is reported to have told students that their generation's mission is to recover land from eastern Turkey, including Mount Ararat.

The Armenian president made the comments to participants in an Armenian language and literature competition, according to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.

Asked by one of the students whether Armenia would be able to "regain" Mt Ararat and surrounding territory, Serzh Sargsyan said: "This is the mission of your generation. For example, my generation skillfully accomplished its mission. We liberated Artsakh [the Armenian name for Karabakh], part of our land, from the enemy in the early 1990s. Each generation has its own mission."
