TCA Reacts to “Religious Bigotry”

E-mail Print PDF

Turkish Coalition of America (TCA), issued a message condemning efforts in US Congress to accuse Turkey of religious discrimination. The message is as follows;

TCA condemns the passage of an Amendment by the House Foreign Affairs Committee to H.R. 2583, which singles out Turkey for alleged religious discrimination.

H.R.2583 is unlikely to become law. Either way, it will not have any binding effect on Turkey. However, the mentality it represents is a lasting stain on the United States Congress.

The Amendment has carried the unabating hatred of some segments of the Armenian and Greek American diaspora against Turkey into Congress and reeks of the kind of religious bigotry, which, tragically, just manifested itself in the horrible attacks in Norway. Sadly, at a time when Congress should spend its time and energy on building bridges between people, and enhance United States standing by taking an even-handed and fair approach to human rights and religious freedoms across the world, it has chosen to do the opposite.

TCA believes that education is the only remedy for such bigotry. VISIT THE TCA WEBSITE FOR A FACT SHEET ON THE ISSUE.
