Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh: If Armenians continue emigrating, Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia will be empty

"The Armenian population is rapidly declining," Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno Karabakh Chairman Bayram Safarov said in an interview with the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.

Armenians themselves are already worried that 18,800 people have left Armenia since early 2011.

This is a large emigration index, which will continue increasing. If things continues this way, then there will be no one left in Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia.

"Everything became antiquated in Armenia," Safarov said. "One can see this by watching their TV shows. All vehicles remained from the Soviet period. The welfare of people is very low."

"There is no constructive work in Yerevan," he said. "Clever Armenians understand that Azerbaijan will not give them Karabakh. As it is known, Armenian today's story appeared on Azerbaijani territories. The Armenian state was established on these lands in the beginning of the last century for some reason. But despite this Armenians again show
ingratitude."

He said that a certain status may be assigned to Nagorno-Karabakh, but with one condition for the internally displaced people, including Azerbaijanis living in Nagorno-Karabakh to return home.

"Afterwards, the issue on status can be considered," he said. "Karabakh Armenians can live and work under the laws of the Azerbaijani state."

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
