'Armenians Seek Benefit From Criticizing Azerbaijan And Turkey'

'No doubt the statement of Armenian President will influence the peace process.

I am not sure there is any peace process,' chairman of the Center for Eurasian Studies, retired Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Omer Lutem said.

Political analyst does not believe Sargsyan behaves like there is any peace process.

'For a year in all his statements he has been trying to blame Turkey for not “remaining committed to the protocols”, demanding the confirmation of the protocols without stipulations and saying that the protocols have nothing to do with the occupation of Karabakh. As Sargsyan knows that Turkey’s position will not change, we can say that he expects nothing from the peace process. So, it reached the point “We got back Karabakh, the future generations will get back Agri”.

Why is Sargsyan doing this? These statements are intended for domestic policy. Both presidential and parliamentary elections will be held in Armenia next year. I think with these statements Sargsyan invests in next year. He has chosen such a way, because it is easy to turn such statements into capital in Armenia’s domestic policy. There are too many radical behaviors in Armenia – it seems that they want put up for auction such statements and sell for higher price,' he said.

Omer Lutem said most Armenian politicians are trying to gain political capital by speaking against Azerbaijan and Turkey.

'This situation keeps Armenia away from the peace process, which it needs most. This process will bring Turkey and Azerbaijan nearer. We are close, brothers as it is. But closeness is not enough – we must turn this closeness into deep cooperation in all spheres. It is always easy for us to come closer, but it is important to strengthen this closeness with cooperation in all spheres,' he said.
