'Azerbaijan Sovereignity Over Karabakh Only Way To Restore Peace in Region'

E-mail Print PDF

'Armenians evicted Azerbaijani population from Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts', said political analyst Rasim Musabayov.

It is already more than one decade that, in attempt to justify their claims to native land of Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenian politicians, historians and media representatives have woven dishevelled "carpet" of the ancient Armenian "history" in which there is special emphasis on claims that exclusively Armenians lived in Nagorno-Karabakh for many centuries.

Armenians use this kind of fabrications to justify their "revisionist" policies, which aims to challenge modern world order, ignore international law and making constant territorial claims against neighbors.

In the meantime, claims are made every time in an increasingly large scale and in a more blatant form. Suffice it to recall famous sayings by Serzh Sargsyan, in which he boasted occupation of Azerbaijani lands and urged the younger generation to do the same with respect to the territories of modern Turkey.

Commenting on the Armenian side's position, member of the Milli Majlis (MM) of Azerbaijan, political analyst Rasim Musabayov, said that no one has ever prevented Armenians from living in Nagorno-Karabakh, but they do not just want to live there, but to rule and ignore international law.

'Armenians evicted Azerbaijani population from Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts. But despite this, the Azerbaijani leadership have given a guarantee on international level several times gives that Armenians will continue to live there with their self-government in event of any conflict resolution option. In other words, Azerbaijan’s restoration of the sovereignty will never be an obstacle to self-determination, development, and free life of Armenians, which was proved in the past.

But establishment of the Armenian authorities, wherever it happened, each time resulted in the fact that no one but Armenians were left in these territories. At present, there are no Azerbaijanis left in Armenia where Azerbaijanis made up majority in this region 100-150 years ago. Where are the mass of Azerbaijanis living in Yerevan, Zangazur, Goycha and other areas of present-day Armenia?' the analyst asked.

'For example, Armenians often say that Azerbaijanis expelled Armenian population from Nakhchivan.'

'However, nothing similar had actually happened and this is a lie. After World War II, Stalin issued a decree under which hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis were deported from Armenia by force, but failed to settle the Armenian immigrants from other countries to take their place in Armenia. As a result, Armenians poured out of Nakhichivan to Azerbaijan historic lands included in the Armenian SSR. Azerbaijanis were constantly evicted en masse from Armenia, but they avoid speaking about it today.'

'In fact, after the collapse of the Soviet Union the Armenian version of self-determination in Nagorno-Karabakh led to the fact that there were only Armenians left there and Azerbaijanis were all driven out.

Therefore, the sovereignty of Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh is the only way to ensure the return of Azerbaijanis and peace to the region. The Soviet period, the previous centuries old domination of Azerbaijanis in this region showed that this formula is true. We appeal to international and humanitarian law, and declare that we can live together with the Armenians,' the MP said.
