Van-Yerevan Flights Held By Bureaucracy

E-mail Print PDF

Van Way Airlines has indefinitely postponed the start of flights to the Armenian capital of Yerevan until the company can obtain necessary permission from Ankara, the firm’s owner has said.

“First, we were told that we could start the flights, then one step was taken backward, and now we are waiting for the process [to end],” the airline’s owner, Arslan Bayram, recently told the Hürriyet Daily News.

He also said the company had information suggesting that Azerbaijan did not look upon the new route favorably.

The company aims to facilitate transportation for businesspeople between the two countries with the proposed route, Bayram said.

There are already regular weekly flights to Yerevan from Istanbul, Trabzon, Bodrum and Antalya during the summer season. Moreover, there are also bus lines that travel from Istanbul to Yerevan through Georgia.

Noting that Van Ways offered businesspeople special flights to neighboring countries, Bayram said they were planning to expand their routes based on demand.
