“No Ground To Say That The Negotiations On The Resolution Of Karabakh Conflict Failed”

“I do not suppose that the negotiations on the resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict have failed.

The recent negotiations were simply another stage, the process is continuing,” Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Roland Kobia told APA. Ambassador said there is no serious ground for political despair.

“Kazan meeting did not make progress as had been expected. Of course, it causes regret, because the Russian leadership is making serious efforts towards mediation,” he said.

Roland Kobia considers that lack of progress in one meeting should not cast shadow on the whole process and there is no ground to say that the whole process failed.

“I agree that the outcomes of the recent contacts caused disappointment. But one should not fall into despair. The efforts did not slow down, Medvedev-Aliyev meeting was held on August 9. We should continue this process and should spare no efforts. The international community will also continue giving support,” he said.

To APA’s question “Can the lack of progress in the recent negotiations incite to bloody clashes along the line of contact?” Roland Kobia said he hopes it will not happen.

“It must not happen. There is ceasefire, though fragile, and this regime must be observed. No one must die on the line of contact. I hope both sides will remain committed to ceasefire. There will be a chance to achieve peace,” he said.
