“Amenia Should Withdraw Signature From Turkey Reconciliation Accord”

Armenia's diplomacy on the Turkish reconciliation process has resulted in failure, a nationalist politician has said.

Giro Manoyan, head of the central Hay Dat (Armenian Cause) office and a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun, said the failure was caused by the US and EU linking normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations to the Karabakh issue.

“Previously, the US and EU considered Armenian-Turkish reconciliation a separate problem. The Western powers now believe resolution of the Karabakh conflict will create the possibility for normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations,” Manoyan said.

Although Armenian diplomats’ intended to settle relations without preconditions, it is clear that the process did not yield the anticipated results, Manoyan told journalists on Tuesday.

Asked by the News.am correspondent what steps Armenian diplomacy should take to find a way out, Manoyan said: “The only solution is to withdraw the signature from the Armenian-Turkish protocols to create new situation in the normalization of bilateral ties. However, at present Turkey is not interested in ratification of the protocols, as it got nothing it wanted and at the same time gave nothing in return.”
