Most important press organ of Armenian diaspora in U.S. and being published in Los Angeles for 50 years, owner of The California Courier Harut Sassounian wrote in his article that Turkey was struggling to drive a wedge between Yerevan and Armenian diaspora and adviced Armenia to not to rush for reconciliation with Turkey. In his article in The California Courier Sassounian said that there was a pressure over Yerevan for reconciliation with Turkey after recent internal kaos in Armenia and recent events in Georgia. Sassounian said, “As a result, i may only support the suggestion of Turkey for a committy of historians only if Turkey establishes diplomatic relation with Armenia.” Pointing that the process were attracting attention of World over itself after President Gul’s visit to Yerevan, Sassounian said, “But after Turkey win the seat in United Nations Security Council, Turkey’s plan started to fail. There occured a clash of ideas about the form and timing of Historians committee. Turkey rushes to establish the commission before 20 January on which elected President of U.S. Barack Obama will swear. According to the article of Sassounian, in the interview that Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan made with German journal Frankfurter Allgemeine, he said that Historians committee was needles. Pointing that Sarksyan also denied the words of Foreign Minister Nalbandian, “recognition of genocide in foreign parliaments do not contribute Turkey Armenia reconciliation”, Sassounian claimed that U.S. officials implied that they would recognize “genocide” if Turkey do not normalize its relations with Armenia. Sassounian said that in such situation it was not logical to rush for reconciliation and adviced Armenia to move slowly and wait for the step of Obama administration.
