"But we discussed the situation thoroughly." The minister noted that the mediators will visit the region in mid July, Gun.Az reported. "The situation will be discussed widely once again. For any progress in the peace process, first of all the Armenians troops should be withdrawn from the occupied lands." Mammadyarov said that international organizations already admit the unacceptability of the status quo. "Everyone knows that this conflict is not frozen." "Azerbaijan agrees to give high status to Nagorno-Karabakh, and this means self-determination," the minister said at a joint press conference held with his Portuguese counterpart Paulo Portas. Mammadyarov noted that Azerbaijan has joined the Helsinki Final Act which is based on three principles: non-application of force, territorial integrity and self-determination. "But self-determination doesn’t mean to violate the territorial integrity. For example, in Russia, Tatars or Bashkirs have found their self-determination at the state level within Russia. That's what the Helsinki Final Act means. We agree to give high status to Karabakh." |
