Head of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations Elshad Iskandarov during a visit to the northwest region of the country has acquainted with a historic Albanian monument - the Church of St. Elisha (Chotari), located in the village of Nij.
According to the head of the Albanian-Udi community Robert Mobil, the activists of the community informed the head of the State Committee on the history of the church. Iskenderov praised the repair work conducted by the Udi community to restore the Albanian Church.
"The misappropriation or destruction of the historical Albanian church, archives, religious liturgy and sources by Armenians is a vivid example of religious racism of Armenian nationalism. They pursued a policy of intolerance and cultural vandalism not only against Azerbaijani Muslims, but also against the Christian nations, including the most ancient Christians of Caucasus – Udis," the head of the State Committee said.
He noted that, after the restoration of independence, Azerbaijan created all necessary conditions for reconstruction and development of historical and cultural values of all ethnic minorities living in the country , so that our country was considered a model of tolerance.
