The leadership of the Azerbaijani parliament states that the country is not staging a campaign against Turkey.

“The Azerbaijani government and other official agencies are not interested in a campaign against Turkey. No special campaign is held against Turkey,” Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov said on Oct. 20

The First Vice Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov also said that there is no any campaign held against Turkey.

“Azerbaijan is not holding any campaign against Turkey. If one accepts lowering of the Turkish flags in the Martyrs’ Lane as an insult, the Azerbaijani flags have also been insulted in Bursa. But we do not accept this case as the policy of the Turkish government,” Asgarov added.

AZERBAIJANI STATE COMMITTEE: “TURKISH MOSQUE WILL NOT BE CLOSED”

The Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Religious Associations dismissed reports about closure of the Turkish mosque in Baku.

The reports about closure of the Turkish mosque the Mehdiabad settlement of the Absheron region are untrue, Spokesman of the State Committee on Work with Religious Organizations Yagut Aliyeva said.

The mosque was not closed and continues to operate, Aliyeva added.

The media reports claimed the Turkish mosque the Mehdiabad settlement was closed on Oct.17.

The media reports quoted head of the religious community of the Mehdiabad settlement Ismayil Suleymanov who confirmed the closure of the mosque saying that the Mehdiabad executive power instructed them to close the mosque on Oct.17.

“There have been no prayers at the mosque since then. The officials said that the mosque will be repaired and asked to close the mosque,” Suleymanov added.

The mosque was built together with Turkey’s Ministry for Religious Affairs in 1999.
