SEMNEBY HOPES FOR OPEN BORDERS IN S. CAUCASUS |

![]() EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. Semneby stated that they discussed the developments in the process of resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem, Turkey-Armenia relations and energy issues. He said that he is hopeful that there will be positive developments in these issuesas Azerbaijani and Armenian Foreign Ministers will discuss in their next meeting. Stressing that European Unioun supports the developments in the normalization processof Turkey-Armenia relations, Semneby said, “Developments in the relations between Turkey and Armenia is towards our interests in the region. I hope all of the borders in the region will be opened in the future.” Reminding that there are three closed borders in South Caucasus; Turkey-Armenia, Azerbaijan-Armenia and Georgia-Russia borders, Semneby said that they are hopeful on solution of these problems. MAMMADYAROV: CONTINUATION OF OCCUPATION IS UNACCEPTABLE On the other hand, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that continuation of the situation that is emerged due to occupation of the lands of Azerbaijan by Armenian forces is not acceptable. Mammadyarov said that the solution of the problem is possible only with respect to the principal of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Semneby also commented on the issue and said that EU is towards rapid solution of the problem. |
